REGISTRATION CLOSED - Christine Flinn - Advanced Royal-Icing Extension Techniques

Highly acclaimed British royal-icing master and historian Christine Flinn brings her innovative skills to us with this two-day master class. Students will create a one-tier masterpiece using complex extension work and net-nail techniques. Techniques include, but are not limited to, bridgeless extensions, patterned extensions, use of a tilt board, and net-nail piping. Christine will share her wealth of knowledge regarding royal-icing preparation, tools, and innovative patterns, as well as historical insights and anecdotes. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to study with an industry legend!

SKILL LEVEL: Advanced*

*Students must exhibit a proficiency in royal-icing work to be eligible for this class. Because we want our students to be comfortable in classes of appropriate levels, advanced skills are required. If in doubt about your ability, please email us (see contact page) to submit samples of your work.

**Please note that due to renovation work involving our usual classroom in Edgewater, NJ, our classes have moved temporarily. Classes will return to Edgewater in June.**

Class will run from 10:00 AM to approximately 5:00 PM daily, March 27-28 (Wednesday-Thursday), in Fort Lee, NJ. Address, directions, and public-transportation information will be sent via email upon acceptance into class. Parking is available.

Students are requested to bring to class:

  • piping nozzles # 0, 1, 2 (PME or Bekenal ONLY!)

  • piping nozzle cleaning brush

  • plastic scraper

  • palette knife (straight blade), 4” blade

  • No. 1 pure sable paint brush (not nylon or mixes)

  • scriber needle

  • small pair of scissors for cutting paper

All other materials will be provided. Light breakfast options, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, and beverages throughout the day are also included.

Blocks of guest suites have been reserved for out-of-town guests at the Homewood Suites in Edgewater, NJ. Complimentary hotel shuttle service is provided within a 3-mile radius of the hotel; additionally, transportation will be arranged to shuttle students between the hotel and the class. The Homewood Suites in Edgewater is conveniently located on the shores of the Hudson River directly across from upper Manhattan, and is easily accessible via the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, public bus transportation, or NY Waterways ferry.

The hotel is located in an upscale modern commercial development with many shops, restaurants, and entertainment options just footsteps away. Parking is complimentary.

Christine Flinn has 40 plus years as a professional cake decorator and has been ranked as one of the most skilled royal icers in the world. She has been a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild since 1984. She has won many gold certificates/trophies. Christine became an accredited Demonstrator for the British Sugarcraft Guild in 1989. She now earns her living from teaching cake decoration, creating bespoke cakes to order as well as demonstrating sugarcraft techniques. Fine/delicate piping is her speciality and she travels extensively throughout the UK, USA, Italy and Australia, teaching workshops and giving demonstrations. She was one of the Judges at Glamour Italian Cakes, Oklahoma State Sugar Art show, Cake International (UK), the largest cake show in the world, and this year will be one of the judges at the Cake Designers World Championship, which is to be held in Milan, Italy. She is the author of two books – “Extension Work” and “Piping on Cakes” and has written numerous articles for magazines and various websites.
